Oscar

Oscar is a special gift. He
was brought to the Brooklyn CACC just before Christmas as a stray. He was less than a year
old and so severely matted he had to be nearly shaved. He also had an undescended testicle
that needed to be taken care of immediately. Tricia and Kathleen had been looking for
their second dog for a while. They knew when they saw Oscar that he was the one for them.
He is now the very best buddy of their girl Alice. This was the best Christmas gift for
all of them!

Katie
Isn't Katie a
sweetheart? Katie is six years old, a breeder's dog who could no longer produce and
had been placed with an older, retired woman. After three short weeks, the new owner
became frustrated with poor Katie because she did not understand how to walk properly on a
leash. But Katie had never been leash-trained or even housebroken, so she needed
some time and patience to learn how to be a companion, rather than a puppy-maker.
Katie's foster Mom and Dad worked with her for several weeks and made her part of their
family. Once Katie understood what was expected, she responded well to
training. She is a bright, affectionate and very beautiful girl. And then we
found Teri who was grieving over her Maltese who had passed away only weeks before.
Teri needed Katie to help mend her heart and Katie needed Teri's love. Here is Katie
in Teri's arms -- right where she belongs.

Harry
Harry had been
surrendered to a shelter, so we know little about his background. When we took him into
foster he was severely matted, dirty and frightened He is an 8 lb., four year old Maltese
lad who craves attention -- so much so that he initially suffered from separation anxiety.
We suspect he had been ignored by former owners and was terrified of being abandoned once
again. We could see what a sweet, loving boy he was, but knew Harry needed to be the
center of his owner's world. Lillian saw Harry on the internet and fell in love. Now they
are constantly together and both couldn't be happier. Lillian tells us that she often gets
comments on what a well-behaved dog he is. Harry has blossomed in her care. And Lillian
says she has finally found the perfect man in her life!

Kato
Kato is our little gentleman. His former owner had to
move and couldn't take him with her, but she contacted MetroMalts to be sure he would be
placed in a great home. She had warned us that he was very spoiled and used to being with
someone all day. Kato's foster family soon discovered that if he had been spoiled, it
didn't spoil his personality. He is sweet, loving and responsive. Kato is almost six,
somewhat bigger than the "standard" at 11 lbs, and, as you can see, quite a
handsome guy. He is now in a wonderful home on Long Island with a family that thinks he is
just perfect. That he is...

Ellie
Ellie was given up with her "mate" (see
"Rocky") by her former owners who decided they no longer cared to continue an
investment in two dogs that could not make puppies for sale. All we can say is "Thank
goodness for small favors". They had named her "Chubbie" because she
was a large, 12 lb. Maltese, although, as you can see, quite beautiful. Through
MetroMalts, Ellie (as her new owners have named her) found a great Manhattan home with a
loving couple and their Lhasa (adopted from Bide-A-Wee) named Charlie. As much as Ellie
loved Rocky, she appears to love Charlie, as well as the human members of her new family,
even more (but no monkey business -- Ellie has been spayed and Charlie is neutered). She
is making great progress on housebreaking and loves to strut around the streets of NYC
with Charlie. She even has her own fake fur coat to keep her warm during those cold winter
months.

Tuffy
Tuffy and her brother were
loved and lived happily with their original owner for the first twelve years of their
lives. However, when the woman died, the daughter that inherited Tuffy and Frosty did not
want or like dogs. Tuffy's lifelong friend was sent out west to live but no one wanted
Tuffy because she is deaf. Living her life in silence and being thirteen years old has not
diminished her spirit at all. She thrives on love and attention and returns every bit of
it twofold. Tuffy has found a wonderful forever-after home with Dale and her family.
Dale's words say it all: "Tuffy has been a wonderful addition to our lives and home
and I cherish every day with her. I don't know how many years we will have with her
because she does have a heart murmur, but whatever time we spend with her proves to me
once again the happiness to be found by adopting a senior dog." Tuffy is a special
dog and she is now in the special home she deserves.
