Joey

Joey was literally "dumped" on
the counter at a L.I. groomer's shop. His "owner" said over his shoulder as he
walked out the door, "I hope you can find him a good home... I guess this is better
than a shelter." The groomer knew MMR and called us. We were happy to take in this
wonderful boy, who is less than three years old. Joey's foster Mom could not stop raving
about his virtues. Happily a former MMR adopter (see "Lacy") and new MMR member
wanted to become part of the "Betcha can't adopt just one" club and asked to
meet Joey. Her only concern was that Lacy, a senior lass, accept Joey. Well, it turns out
that Lacy just loves younger men and accepted Joey readily. Lacy and Joey love to play
until, of course, Lacy thinks they've had enough. Age is not a factor in matching two
wonderful rescue Maltese. And a loving human, like Jean, makes all the difference.

Annie

Annie's first human passed away, and she
was taken in by her owner's daughter. Annie was a little older, about 10. She was
considered something of a burden in her new home, so MMR was contacted. Kathy had recently
lost her dear Maltese. When she saw Annie, she knew this was the one to mend her heart.
Annie has once again found the safe, loving home she needs.

Avery

What a handsome boy! Avery's first family
had been fractured by divorce. His first owner left him with a "Good Samaritan"
on her way out of town. Avery was confused and so unhappy. But then he met Lyne and Byron
who had fallen in love with the Maltese breed. Although they had originally wanted a
younger dog - Avery is about 6 - they fell in love with his face (who wouldn't??) and then
with his incredible personality. He is now devoted to his new Mom and Dad, and he has
become the central part of his new family. Everyone is so happy!

Baby

Baby, less than 3 years old, was left at
the Brooklyn CACC, where she was overwhelmed with the sights, smells and sounds. Because
Baby was so overwhelmed and fearful, the shelter called MMR to take her and we were
delighted. As soon as Baby entered her foster home, her sweet personality bloomed. Then we
received Carol's application and suspected right away that this would be a match. Carol
has lots of time, love and attention to give. Baby was all too happy to receive and give
back in spades.

Blue

Dear Blue was dumped at a shelter because
she was getting "too old", although we well know that a 10 year old Maltese is
still very young. Blue had not been given adequate attention for several years, so she had
some health issues to overcome. Once those were taken care of, she became a tiny, playful
pup. Lina and her Maltese boy, Duncan, were more than willing to welcome this dear
princess as part of the family. Blue is one lovely, lucky little girl... And so are Lina
and Duncan.

Thumper

After seven years with his original
human, Thumper's owner contacted MMR for placement. Her lifestyle had changed and she no
longer had time for him. Thumper had developed "separation anxiety", acutely
feeling the change. Jillian was happy to take in this little guy as a new
"brother" for her UConn & Ricky. Although she only intended to foster, a
temporary home quickly became a permanent one. Jillian at the time didn't know that her
first Maltese, UConn, had kidney disease that would end his life within weeks of adopting
Thumper. Her two MMR adoptees, Ricky and Thumper, were there to comfort and sustain her
through a very difficult time. Thumper not only found his right place, but was able to
help his special human companion. Some times we "save" these dogs, but mostly
they save us.

Ella

Although we try to stick only to Maltese,
every once in a while another breed sneaks in because of our warm-hearted members. Gale
heard about Ella and knew we had to help her. Ella had been neglected for quite some time.
She needed some TLC and a stable, loving home, something she had never known. Arlene and
Rick had been waiting patiently for a rescue Maltese, but when they met dear Ella they
couldn't resist. And either could Ella... She became a prancing charmer of a girl as soon
as she met her new forever family. With Arlene, Rick and their Maltese, Lilly, Ella is
finally home.

Maxie

Maxie is a five-year old, six pound
little guy who was an owner-surrender to the S.I. CACC. We don't know why and really don't
care. All we knew was this was a lovebug needing the perfect home. Tina welcomed him into
her home as a foster, but was soon smitten with the little guy. Tina had fallen in love
with the Maltese breed when she attempted to help a female Maltese in her neighborhood.
She found MMR and offered to help. Very soon, we contacted her to take dear Maxie. Tina
didn't hesitate for an instant. It didn't take long for a foster to turn into forever.
Maxie is now part of a loving, caring family, who consider themselves very fortunate to
have been there when Maxie needed them.

Henri and
Sami

Henri & Sami were dearly loved for
nearly a decade, but their owners had to move to England. They knew it would be
devastating for these two sweet girls to endure a six-month quarantine, so they asked MMR
to place their girls in a new home. We knew as soon as we met them that Henri & Sami
were special -- so loving and lively. We also knew that they required an home where their
human companion could be with them most of the day and could provide a backyard for them
to play. And then we heard from Pauline who filled all these requirements, and then some,
and knew the wonders of "mature" dogs. Henri and Sami got lucky once again. And
so did Pauline.

Idgie

Idgie is a young girl, less than 2 years
old, with an engaging, friendly personality. Her family told us they were moving to a
"no pets" apartment and couldn't bring this sweet girl with them. What her
former family didn't tell us was that Idgie had acute luxating patella which would take
surgery to correct. Also, due to poor nutrition, Idgies teeth were already in bad shape at
a very young age. Bad breeding and bad nutrition were a double-whammy for Idgie. No matter
to us, we made arrangements for the surgery and dental, and placed our Idgie in a
wonderful home with Kathleen, Tricia and their Maltese Alice & Oscar. Idgie has
quickly become part of a very loving family who will always provide all the love and care
little Idgie needs. We are so thankful we were able to help this wonderful soul.

Bridget

Bridget's original owner had to move and
could only afford a "no pets" apartment. After 10 years of being a devoted
companion, Bridget was brought to MMR to find a new home. We were concerned about Bridget
being able to adjust to a new home. No need to worry on that score... Bridget met Karen
and KNEW this was it. She went from a somewhat aloof lady to the world's greatest
snuggler. Bridget is happy, Karen is happy and we're happy!

Maxxwel

This is our Maxx-Very-Wel, now that he
has found his forever home. Maxx-wel's former owner "wanted to travel" and
didn't have time for a six year old boy with Addison's Disease. We had done our research
and understood that Addison's could be easily controlled with daily medication. We were
also amazed at Maxx-wel's engaging personality and wonderful intelligence. David saw
Maxx-wel on the internet and was enthralled. He immediately knew that Maxx-wel would be
the Prince of the B&B he owned on L.I., and so he was... Maxx-wel is where he always
belonged, getting many pats from guest, plus bits of bacon for his lap sitting. Life is
good.

Nicky

Nicky was a stray at the Brooklyn CACC.
We liked him immediately. Despite being at the shelter for a number of weeks, Nicky was
friendly, feisty and housebroken! He is young at only six years old and needed an active,
attentive owner. He found it in Sally, who had waited several months for just the right
dog and right time in her life. Nicky is now home with a lovely yard and loving Mom. He
should have no less.
|
Ozzie

Ozzie is young, three years or less, but
had, until recently, a tough time of it. His former owners couldn't "handle"
him, so they brought him to a local groomer for placement. The new home didn't work out
(very young children too active for this breed), so the groomer asked MMR to take Ozzie
in. We knew immediately that this was a dog with a heart twice his size. All Ozzie wants
in life is to be with his special someone. And that someone was David who had recently
adopted another MMR dog (see "Maxx-wel). Ozzie is constantly by David's side, looking
for that loving pat and occasional stray breakfast sausage... Ozzie truly understands
what's important in life. Ozzie is such an incredible boy and he has found his incredible
home.

Annable

Dear Annable was a breeder's
bitch. Not a puppymill, but a place where she didn't get the individual attention this
special girl deserved. She came to MMR quite shy of people, but began to warm up with
gentle care. Annabel is now a vivacious, happy girl, not expected to produce anything but
licks and love.
