Bogey

bogey

Bogey was well loved, but his family was unable to spend the time with him that this dear boy deserved. They asked MMR to find him a home that could, and that we did... Elaine and Floyd already had their Flummy, but were looking for a second Maltese to share their home. They met Bogey and were smitten. This is a personality plus guy who loved them, and Flummy, off the bat. He now spends his days near the ocean where he can run on the soft sand. Bogey is where he belongs.

Buddy

BUDDY

After 8 years in a loving home, Buddy's original owner passed away. A caring family took Buddy in. Although they loved him, Buddy did not do well in a home with very young children. Not wanting to put Buddy through more trauma, this family turned to MMR for placement. Then Buddy met Jane & Alan and their CoCo, a Shih Tzu who was looking for the right companion. All agreed that a two-dog family was meant to be! Here's this sweetheart of a boy -- looking MIGHTY happy!

Chloe and Gloria

Chloe and Gloria

Chloe & Gloria (or "C&G" as we know them) came to MMR at 14 years of age. Their original and only owner had gone to a nursing home and her daughter could not take care of them. So MMR was called... We were initially concerned about how dogs of this age would adjust to a new environment. C&G showed us that as long as they were loved and remained together, they would do just fine, thank you very much. Our two "little old ladies" now live in a home with lots of activity, four other little dogs, and a short walk to the beach (their very favorite thing). Although C&G have a few health needs that required attention, they are relatively healthy and extremely happy. Their new "Moms", Des & Sam, are also extremely happy to make "the girls" part of their family.

Eddie

EDDIE

Eddie was in a bad place... Left in a tenement by one owner, his new owner had neither the financial or psychological means to care for him. Eddie was scared and neglected for quite some time. A very Good Samaritan named Gene discovered his plight, rescued Eddie, and called MMR for help. We took Eddie in, did all vet care (neutering and dental work), and, of course, fell in love with his engaging personality. Apparently Eddie has this mesmerizing effect on most people, because within a few days Gene asked if she could adopt him. Although previously unfamiliar with the Maltese breed (but very much a "dog person"), Gene realized that Eddie had captured her heart within a few hours. We were ecstatic that "kiss-mutt" had happened once again and delivered Eddie back to Gene. Now Eddie is in a very GOOD place.

Gwenie

Gwen

Here is little "Gwenie". This dear lady was found as a stray by a shelter in Queens. Gwen was about 10 years old and such a beauty! The shelter adopted her out, but Gwen was quickly returned when the new owners learned that she had mammary tumors that are costly to remove and possibly malignant. When the shelter called MMR for help, we were undaunted. We had seen so many females left unspayed after six years of age who develop these tumors. Through our experience we've also learned that mammary tumors are usually, although not always, benign. Even so, we crossed our fingers and said a fervent prayer waiting for the results after the spay and tumor operation. Our prayers were answered... Gwen is O.K. And then another miracle happened... Gwen's fosters, Christina & John, welcomed her into their family. So now Gwen is part of a happy home with Kassy and Bahama. Life is good...

Jamie

Jaime

At six years old, Jaime's family didn't have time for him anymore. Their lifestyle had radically changed and they contacted MMR to place this dear boy. Despite being uprooted from his home, Jaime did so well in foster. Soon many potential adopters were clamoring for him, but Bernice and John were the lucky ones... Now Jaime has someone with him all the time, including a cute Lhasa to play with. Jaime and his new family are forever!

Muffin

muffin

Muffin's original owner truly cared for her, but with a new baby and a full-time job, things were just too much. MMR took Muffin into foster. We immediately knew this was a gem -- calm, loving, and oh-so-cute. When we saw Joyce's application, we suspected a match was at hand. Joyce's family had a Bichon for many years who had recently died. They were looking for a sweetheart to mend their hearts. And Muffin was looking for the same. A perfect match was made. What an incredible Christmas gift for all!

Princess Grace

grace

MMR volunteers often go to the CACC shelter to help out. In early September they saw an incredible face peering at them from behind her kennel bars. Although this was not a "pure" Maltese, the Maltese eyes were unmistakable. Besides, we just KNEW this girl was coming to us. Her name was "Princess"... but we've renamed her "Princess Grace" ("Gracie" for short) because of her awesome beauty and "star" quality. Gracie developed pneumonia while at the shelter and was very ill for several weeks -- just enough time for her foster parents, Clem & Joan, to fall completely under her spell. So beautiful Gracie is the Princess of her forever home with three boys -- Lucca, Kirby and T. Tony -- who must follow her lead. Gracie... you're something else! Here is her "Before" (in the shelter) and "After".

Lexi

Lexi

Lexi's parents had been waiting a long time to rescue a Maltese. They had Martel and knew they needed another companion for themselves and him. When they got the call from MMR about a five year old girl at the Manhattan CACC, they were READY! Lexi was so freaked out by shelter life, but she knew immediately that this was a very good place. Lexi and her new family are having such a wonderful Christmas!
