Snowy
Snowy was a special surprise. When
contacted by the daughter of her 90 year old owner, we were told that Snowy was an 8 year
old, neutered, male. Imagine our amazement when we were brought an intact girl, in heat no
less. But the most amazing part about Snowy was her charming personality. Although she
appears to have suffered some neurological damage and had to have all her remaining teeth
pulled, Snow became more loving and sprightly with each passing day. She was adopted by a
family in Long Island whose 12 year old daughter considers Snowy her best friend. Snowy is
now in the very place she was always meant to be.

Gucci
Gucci was brought to a shelter in Westchester at
11 years of age because his aging owner had to move in with her son and daughter-in-law.
Her family was not willing to care for this elderly boy who had been a long term companion
to their mother. MetroMalts stepped in and took this most handsome guy with an intriguing
personality. Intriguing because as much as he loves humans, he disdains other dogs. His
age and quirks were of no matter to Heather. When she adopted him, all she saw was a
delightful dog who took a permanent hold on her heart. Now Gucci has a weekday home in
Manhattan with one section set aside just for his toys and treats, and weekly trips to
visit Grandma and Grandpa in Westchester. For Gucci, life went from very bad to wonderful.
Yes, Gucci, life is good -- all that you deserve.

Ricky
Ricky is such a wonderful dog - affectionate,
responsive, great with all people and other animals. He had one problem. At four years
old, he was clueless in the housebreaking department. We believe that he had never been
given patient, consistent training. We also believe that his marking was often a reaction
to stress. But with lots of calm, loving guidance and positive reinforcement, Ricky got
the point. He is now living in a wonderful home in Long Island with loving humans and his
new playmate, Uconn. Ricky is finally in the right place!

Lika

Lika is sweet, lively and so pretty. She
was only 1.5 years old when her owner brought her to the Brooklyn CACC. It seems they
didn't have enough time for her. So many wonderful dogs end up abandoned in shelters
because their owners didn't consider what the responsiblity of dog ownership entails. But
Lika's new owner was fully prepared to welcome Lika into her heart and home. Lika and Lisa
have lots of time for each other.

Rocco

Rocco is a wonder. Found wandering a park
in upper Manhattan, he was taken to the Manhattan CACC as a stray. He is an older gent,
about 10 years old, but you'd never know it from his attitude. He is loving and full of
life. The Manhattan CACC contacted MetroMalts asking that we find Rocco the best home.
Luckily Dan and Helen, a retired couple living in Manhattan, were looking for gentle and
loving canine companion. Their daughter, Janet, worked on the same street as Rocco's
foster family and saw him each day as he was taken for his walks. She knew Rocco was the
dog her parents were looking for. She was so right. The minute Rocco came to live with Dan
and Helen he was joyous. As this picture taken on that first day shows, Rocco knew he was
home.

Pudgy

Pudgy was only two years
old, but he lived in a stressful and frenetic environment in a home where the adult owner
had little time for the care and training he required. She knew this was not a good
situation for Pudgy, so she turned to MetroMalts for help. When we took him in, we knew
that Pudgy needed a quiet, stable home. We found that home with Anne and Bruna. They had
been looking for a dog to love after theirs had passed away. Pudgy was there to end their
grief and they were there to give him the love and care he desperately needed. Pudgy is
now has a gentle hand to pet him all day long. And he loves it!

Max

Max was a boy who got lucky
twice. He was owned by Joe, who loved him dearly. But Joe had bought him in haste from a
Manhattan petshop without time to consider that having a dog was a long-term commitment.
Joe's career required that he spend long hours away from home and he felt guilty about Max
being lonely. Joe came to MetroMalts to find Max a new home. When we looked at Chris's
application, we knew this was the right place for Max. Here is a recent note we received
from Chris: "Max is now a full-fledged member of our family. We all love him and
can't imagine what we did before he arrived. Max and mom are now virtually inseparable.
They spend the mornings outside in the backyard while my mother does her gardening, and
the late afternoons in the house watching TV so both can get their much-needed naps."
Yes, Max is lucky. So is his new family.

Dancer

Dancer came to us from two
kind-hearted rescuers, Patrice and Robin, who are members of S.A.V.E They took Dancer in
as a stray, but couldn't keep him because their home was already full of other needy
rescues, both canine and feline. They asked MetroMalts for help. We appreciate the
confidence they had in us to care for this wonderful boy who they had grown to love in
only a few days. They transported him to us and paid for all his vet care, plus gave us a
generous donation. What a pleasure to find two such giving people. As Robin and Patrice
knew, Dancer is a gem. We were able to place him in a very loving home with a retired
couple who were looking for a companion for themselves and their Maltese. It was love a
first sight for everyone. Now Dancer spends his summers near the beach with a family who
will never let him go.

Lana

When Lana was brought to the Brooklyn
CACC as a stray, she had a perforated eye and a large tumor on her stomach, along with
other health problems. Her vet care and recuperation were extensive, but Lana
never seemed to mind. Her loving and happy spirit was never diminished even with the
loss of an eye. It's this unique strength that captivates all who meet Lana.
Lana is now part of a very wonderful family with Paula and two Maltese girls, Savannah and
Odessa. Paula tells people not to feel sorry for Lana, because Lana has a sweetness
and joy that is a special gift. We are lucky to know this beautiful girl, our Lana.

Simba

We cannot tell the story of
Simba without including Marty. Marty and Simba were found abandoned in a car and taken to
the Manhattan CACC. After completion of the legal process to locate their owner to no
avail, the shelter asked us to foster and place these two precious boys. We soon
discovered that both were Heartworm positive. Despite all the love and care we tried to
give, Marty's heart was just too weak to survive the heartworm treatments. Click here to find the memorial to our Marty. Simba was
devastated and confused without his friend, but he began to heal in foster. Simba is today
totally free of heartworm and has started to gain weight since this photo was taken. He is
now the center of his new family's world -- Sharin and Marty (yes, Marty) in the Bronx.
Every day they are delighted to discover new and wonderful aspects of Simba's incredible
personality. They have dubbed him "Simba, The Lion-Hearted", one very loved and
loving boy.

Charlie

Charlie had been a stud dog. At eight
years old, he was no longer a financial asset to the breeder. But Charlie's heart was
never diminished. He knew he had to find a special person to love. Charlie is an obedient,
cuddily boy, although shy with many people. Luckily, he found Dolores and his life changed
dramatically. Dolores is able to be with Charlie all day long, giving him the kisses and
hugs he has missed for so long. All Charlie wants and needs is to be with his new Mom
every minute.
