Daphne

Daphne

Our sweet Daphne, always a lady even when her former owners dumped her at the Brooklyn CACC totally flea-infested. In her short life (only 6 years) she had learned to distrust most everyone. But her regal bearing was always evident, so despite being in such a state we dubbed her "Lady Daphne". When she came to live with Ellen, she was, at first, so quiet and reserved. But with time and love, she brightened up. Ellen, came to realize that one of the reasons for Daphne's melancholy was a badly infected ear canal, which has been given proper vet care. Lady Daphne now lives happily with Ellen and her new little brother, Jack, another MMR Success Story. Our Lady Daphne has the home she always deserved.

Jack

jack

This is our Happy Jack! He was so young, less than three years old, when he was given up to rescue by an owner who could not longer afford his care. But Jack loved everyone -- particularly other dogs. With Ellen and Lady Daphne (please read Daphne's Success Story), he found patience, love and care, everything he needed. He's no longer just Happy Jack, he's Lucky Jack. His new family thinks they're very lucky, too.

Waldo

Waldo

Waldo was an owner-surrender to the Brooklyn CACC. We're not sure why... He was young (less than five years old) and so beautiful. Perhaps the original owner no longer had time for an active canine companion or was unable to give Waldo the proper care that any dog deserves. Waldo needed some vet care to relieve a chronic ear infection, but was otherwise healthy and sweet, although, at times, shy and frightened (can you blame him?). Whatever the reason, Bonnie was happy to welcome him to her rescue family with Crystal (a rescued Bichon) and Snowy (see Snowy's MMR Success Story).

Bogie

Bogey  Bogie

This is our little Bogie-man! He was a return to a shelter in Pennsylvania because he bit his male owner. We soon found out one of the reasons for his aggression -- Bogie is deaf. He was often frightened by his surroundings because of his lack of hearing. He also tended to attach himself to a single person that he perceived to be the special one he needed to protect. But Bogie had a unique sweetness, and such an incredible face. With the aide of the ASPCA's behaviorist, Bogie's new owners learned to understand his personality and deal with his deafness. Bogie is happily part of Max and Rosemarie's family with Oliver (another Success Story) and Teddy. Here's Bogie's "Before" shot (as the wild man from the shelter) and "After" a few months with his new family.

Clyde

Clyde    Clyde and Clare

Clyde is a five year old, 7 lb. tyke who was abandoned and ended up at the Brooklyn CACC. He was so frightened there, he didn't stop trembling in our arms when we took him from his kennel. But it wasn't before long in his foster home that Clyde started to brighten. And then he met his new Mom, Claire. As you can see from his "before" and "after", his sad face has been replaced with a perpetual smile. He thinks his new life is very good!

Lily

Lilly & June

Lily was an owner surrender. At five years old, she was rejected by a second owner who essentially kept her in a cage for six months. She was supposedly not housebroken. Once we got her into foster care, we understood why. Lily had a urinary tract infection. She was spayed and treated for the UTI. Within days she was a new dog. She was bright, affectionate and loved everyone, despite how shabbily she had been treated in her past life. We matched Lily with June who had been looking for a second dog since her had died several months before of cancer. June tells us that Lily is her ideal dog. She loves her lively, playful, yet independent, nature. As you can see, both June and Lily knew from the moment they met, they were made for each other.

Max Henry

Max Henry   Max Henry

When we first met Max Henry at the Brooklyn CACC, we knew he was something special. We were impressed at how exceptionally bright he was, not to mention very, very cute. Max Henry had been found wandering around a Brooklyn neighborhood, so at four years old he was already street wise. One bad lesson he learned on the streets was an acute fear of some men, which manifested itself in aggressive behaviors. Plus he was allergic to most anything he ate. But his new Mom and Dad were undaunted. Renee and George consulted a trainer to help Max Henry overcome his fears and looked into natural nutrition to cure his allergies. In no time, Max Henry (because he is very, very smart) was able to control his impulses and has become a well behaved little guy. Max Henry went from being a street-wise boy, to a very proper gentleman. Here are his "before" and "after" shots.
