Charlie

Charlie (was "Gaylord") came to us from the Friends of Linden Animal Shelter.
FOLAS assists animals of all breeds who find their way to the Linden Shelter.
Because Charlie had heart problems, they asked MMR to take in this lovable 12 year old boy
into a quiet foster home until he was ready for a forever one. It appears we found both in
Shirley. Luckily, Shirley is one of those special people who doesn't consider age, and
immediately saw what a wonderful dog our Charlie was. So thank you to Shirley, thank you
to FOLAS, and thank you to dear Charlie!

Maddie

We received Milly, now named Maddie, from her original
owner in NJ who had just had a human baby and felt she no longer could give three year old
Maddie the attention she deserved. Maddie ended up in foster with JennT who was still
grieving the loss of her Holly. Jenn and her Maltese boy, Hudson, still wanted to help MMR
rescue dogs, so they willingly offered to take in Maddie. It wasn't long before both Jenn
and Hudson knew that Maddie had mended their hearts and brought new joy to their lives.
That's just Maddie's way.

Blanca

Blanca came to us from a Good Samaritan in
the Bronx who rescued her, but was unable to keep her. So she turned to MMR and we were
delighted to take in this gorgeous girl who was only two years old. When we met her, we
realized that Blanca was, in fact, a Poodle. But we didn't care, this was one special
girl. We found her a special home with a family on Long Island. Their youngest son, David,
cried with joy and hugged Blanca's Foster Mom saying how much he appreciated her letting
them bring Blanca into their family. We suspect David is destined to be a rescuer. And
Blanca is destined to have many happy years with her new forever-family.

J.J.

J.J. was a boy who had been a world traveler -- bred in
Italy, shipped to Florida, then ended up in New York with a family who didn't understand
an exuberant, intelligent boy. Their vet recommended Prozac for J.J. at a young age which
made J.J. tense and a bit neurotic. What J.J. really needed was a loving home that
welcomed a boy who wasn't a "lap dog", but a playful, fun-loving spirit, without
drugs to dampen what came naturally. J.J. found that perfect place with Rosemarie in
Connecticut, whose home is a place where J.J. can play to his hearts content. He even has
a new best friend, a beagle/GSD-mix named "Sweetie" who has taken J.J. under her
"wing". Here's J.J. with his best girl, Sweetie.

Teddy

Our little guy Teddy, only 2 years old, was found on the
streets in NJ in pretty bad shape. Teddy was not housebroken, not neutered and not trained
in any way, but after the initial chaos (and immediate neutering!), Teddy began to show
off his wonderful personality. He is now potty trained and has even learned some simple
commands! Teddy is a cuddler, a kisser, and the dog that everyone wants to take home once
they meet him. Teddy had very bad knees and needed surgery to correct luxating patella,
which MMR took care of. After a few weeks of recuperation, Teddy was fit and ready to go!
But he wasn't going any where 'cause his foster Mom, Diane, had fallen under his spell. So
Diane, Teddy and Teddy's new "sister", Shelby, are one happy family! Here are
holiday greetings sent by Diane, Teddy and Shelby for 2002.

CoCo

The shelter in Randolph, NJ, asked MMR to
take in CoCo, an owner-surrender who needed an operation for "cherry eye" (which
we have taken care of). We were glad to get this personality-plus boy, although it was
obvious when we met him that CoCo was more Lhasa than Maltese. We knew he needed our help,
that's all that mattered. CoCo loves to run and play, and is a big-hearted boy. We were
pleased when his foster family (Floyd & Elaine, the humans, Bogey & Flummy, the
Malts) asked to keep him forever. Bogey particularly enjoys his new playmate, CoCo. Here
is an uncharacteristic photo of CoCo at rest!

Shayna

Shayna (was "Sasha") is a feisty, five pound,
five year old girl. She was being held back due to a case of luxating patella that caused
her kneecaps to "slip". We took care of that pesky problem. Shayna was given to
us by a couple who worked long days and traveled frequently, so we knew she was desperate
for attention. We also knew she needed to be a one-and-only, queen of her household.
Harriet, a retiree in Manhattan, had the time and love to give to dear Shayna. Now these
two lovely ladies have each other forever!

Gorby

Gorby is a boy who had been well loved
and well cared for all his life. Then his owners' lifestyle changed and they opted to
surrender him to MMR. We could see instantly that this was a spectacular boy who looked
and acted much younger than his 11 years. He is happy, self-confident and loving. Ruth
took one look at him and flipped! Although she had only come along with her daughter to
help with an MMR transport, she couldn't get Gorby out of her mind. Within weeks she sent
us a message asking to adopt. We couldn't be happier that Gorby got so lucky and so did
Ruth!
