Hennessey

Hennessey

Hennessey is a dear, sweet, friendly boy whose family was too overwhelmed to deal with the needs of a young active dog. A brand new foster family who had been considering a second Maltese offered to help. Hennessey is a love, but came to us un-neutered and with a propensity to mark his territory. After neutering and some time for positive reinforcement of correct behavior, Hennessey got "the point". As we suspected, his foster home became a permanent one due to Hennessey's engaging personality and his becoming a part of the family. Good BOY!

Holly-belle

Holly

Our Holly-belle... What a dear heart! She came to us from an owner who was unable to housebreak this six year old, unspayed girl, and who told us Holly was epileptic. When she arrived in her foster home, she was a tad nervous at first, but incredibly loving and sweet, with her tail constantly wagging. Holly's foster Mom questioned the epilepsy and, on the advice and guidance of a vet, began to wean her off the medication. After weeks of no episodes, we knew Holly was in the clear. Soon Holly was in her new home on L.I., sleeping with her head nuzzled under her human's chin and being treated like a princess. And she deserves no less.

Leo

leo

Leo was a stray, rescued by a local shelter who asked MMR to foster and place this wonderful, young boy. This is an active, loving guy, who needed a calm, loving home where he could get all the attention he craved -- plus lots of wide-open spaces to play in. And he got exactly what he needed with a Mommy and Daddy and human brother to spend lap and playtime with, even a parrot who has become his new friend. Another happy beginning..

Kimmy

kimmy

Kimmy was purchased by a woman who thought she could handle the needs of a puppy, but soon learned that she had made a mistake. Career demands resulted in her having to leave Kimmy alone for hours on end. Reluctantly, she knew that she needed to do the best for Kimmy and called MMR for help. Soon Kimmy was in her new home with her two Dads who love to take her everywhere, and with lots of canine "siblings" to play with. Kimmy is featured as our "Ms. September" in the 2003 MMR Calendar.

Maxie

max

Maxie's was a sad case. He was surrendered to us after six years in a family whose lifestyle had changed -- the adults worked long hours and human children took up the rest of their time. Poor little Maxie was as sweet as can be, not an aggressive bone in his body, but he had an acute skin condition which we suspect was primarily the result of the stress in his home. He came to us bald in spots around his body and red patches where he had licked himself raw - a "walking scab". We knew the perfect home as soon as we got Maxie into foster -- a loving couple in Queens who would employ natural healing methods instead of continuing rounds of steroids and prednisone. Maxie's new Dad was a holistic practioner for humans by profession, and used his knowledge to help bring Maxie back to good health. It is a long road, but they were delighted to see hair starting to grow back and Maxie playing like a pup. Even more important, Maxie is in a home where he is considered the most they could have wished for. We think Maxie's wishes were granted, too.

Missie

missy

Missy was a "two-time loser"... surrendered twice in less than a year to the same Queens shelter. She became crazed in a kennel. Missy must have been extremely upset to find herself back in the shelter after believing this new family would keep their promise to love her forever. The shelter called MMR and asked for our help. We were delighted to find that once out of her cage, Missy was all wags and kisses, as if she was saying "Thank You" and "Please find me the best, forever-after home". That we did, in a calm, stable loving home on L.I. with a couple who had lots of time to give and the biggest hearts to love. They understood the meaning of commitment. They are delighted to have this wonderful, beguiling little girl as part of their family. Here is Missy with one of her new best friends on the first day of her adoption.

Snoball

Snoball

Snoball is a young guy, only 2 years old, who suffered from separation anxiety, so he was surrendered to MMR by his original human. MMR found him a new home with a family who love him for his loving ways. Now that he feels secure, no more anxiety! It also helps that he has two other dogs, Lamb Chop and Casper, to play with. And he has a new name -- "Snowbie Juan Cannoli" or Snobie for short. We are so pleased that this cool dog now has a cool name. We are ecstatic that we could match such a wonderful boy with a terrific new home. Good deal!

Tony

tony

Tony was one of those great, lightning fast adoptions. When we got in this 4 year old boy, we had a great home "in the wings". Once we were able to get veterinary care done (neutering and dental) and spend some time evaluating this little guy, we found that despite the callousness of his prior owner (who threatened to dump Tony at a shelter if we did not take him immediately) , he was a happy, well-adjusted little guy. His new human parents had applied to MMR months earlier and had been patiently waiting for the right dog. His new Mom told that he arrived in her arms on her wedding anniversary -- and she said she could not have received a better gift. He now has an active, loving family who will never let dear Tony go.
