Angel

Angel came to us as an owner-surrender at only 7 years
old. Angel had a thyroid condition which her owners could no longer deal with, and which
made her a "portly" 12 lbs. But Angel was beautiful, loving and had an issue
that a "pill-a-day" could control. Michael & Mary had no reservations
regarding a treatable medical condition. Once they met dear Angel they suspected it was
right. Then Angel jumped into "Grandma's" lap and it was a done deal! Grandma
knew Angel was "a keeper".

Vivian

Vivian is a dear older girl, who was released to us from
the CACC. We knew that her initial reticence with us was because she was so misunderstood.
She needed time for good vet care and a stable environment to bring out the best in her.
We could tell this one was a "Princess" who required an attentive, loving owner.
And Amanda more than filled the bill. Now Vivian has someone who loves her 24/7 and who
aims to take her with her wherever she goes. That's exactly what Vivian wants...

Olive

Olive was just a puppy, waiting for her destiny in one of
those petshops on Lexington Avenue, Manhattan. A lovely, older woman stopped in and
WHAM... with only a BIG check, Olive was released to her new home. But Olive's new Mom was
a much older human who wasn't able to really care for a very young pup. Kathleen &
Tricia, MMR members and fosters, took dear Olive in. They had recently suffered the loss
of Oscar from GME. Olive seemed to have Oscar's incredible spirit, so it wasn't long
before they had to admit... Olive was home for good!

Bently

Bently was our plus-sized boy. He came to us at 22 lbs.,
but soon trimmed down to under 18. Quite an accomplishment! We also learned from Bently
that he required a home where he was the one-and-only. After several months of searching,
Barbara found us. She had experienced the loss of her husband and her dog in less than a
year's time, so needed an understanding and supportive soul. She found it in Bently. His
foster knew this was "the one" when Bently jumped up and put his head in
Barbara's lap. He now has a big backyard surrounded by woods and a gentle heart to always
love him.

Quinn

Quinn is a little bit of a boy who we got from the CACC
on St. Patrick's Day -- so we had to give him a Celtic name. Quinn is a dear one who
captured so many hearts. We'll never know what he went through in his first several years
of life, but we imagine he spent most of his time in a crate or confined. He was nearly
catatonic and vision-impaired. We knew Quinn needed a home that could provide a boatload
of compassion, safety and love that he needed to continue to come out of his shell. We
found that home with Kristin. Quinn is finally safe and happy forever.

Genny

When we got the call from the Bergen Co. Animal Shelter,
all we knew was that she was a spayed, 10-12 year old female. We knew she might be
difficult to place since most people don't understand the joys of older dogs -- even
though in the Maltese breed 10 years old is still quite young. We quickly discovered that
Genny was a feisty girl used to getting her own way, but also incredibly beguiling. Once
her foster Mom, Keri, met Genny, Keri was a goner. Here's an excerpt from Keri's adoption
note: "I can't imagine not seeing her dance & spin when I come home. I wouldn't
be able to fall asleep if I didn't hear her snoring. I didn't want to keep an 'older' dog,
but she's just too darn perfect!" So Genny found her forever home with Keri, her
hubby and little Maltese boy "Keyser Sose" who must now dance to Genny's tune.
But he understands, too, that Genny needed this wonderful home.

Max and
Cocoa

Max & Cocoa, 2 year old littermates, came to us from
an owner who was moving out-of-state and could not take her dogs with her. What we saw
when we first took them in was two playful, affectionate, sweet Maltese. What we came to
learn is they had some serious and costly medical conditions that are all too common with
poorly bred dogs. Max had bi-lateral luxating patella and Cocoa had a serious heart
condition that nearly killed her. Thanks to a loving foster and terrific vet, both were
taken care of. Max has now completely recovered from his orthopedic surgery on two knees
and Cocoa is on 1/2 pill of Lasix each day to keep her healthy and happy. The greatest
miracle of all is that Max & Cocoa are in their forever home with Lori, along with her
Snowy & Rex who have grown to not only accept, but to love this special pair.
