Brandi

Brandi was taken to a shelter in S.I. by her
former owner who could no longer care for an 8 year old dog after his wife had passed
away. Brandi was "her" dog and he wanted to travel, we were told. The shelter
called MMR and we were blessed with this beautiful, engaging little girl. Despite her
grief and rejection, Brandi was full of life, knowing she was deserving of love and a
second chance. We knew it, too. When we put Brandi's photo on PetFinder, EVERYONE wanted
her, but we were looking for that very special someone who would be willing and able to
treat Brandi like the Queen she is! Nicole was the one -- now Brandi and she are
inseparable. Good for you, Brandi, our exquisite, incredible girl!

Buddy Boy

Buddy Boy is very young, under one year old, but was
never really loved. He had some acute trust issues and needed a special, patient and
understanding owner. Buddy is an "almost Maltese"... O.K.... he's really a
Yorkie. Although the Maltese breed is our calling, we knew we needed to help Buddy Boy. We
(and Buddy) waited to find that special someone and we both found it when Catherine
submitted an application. While it will take time and training for Buddy Boy to be
"perfect", he is getting there with a good human like Catherine.

Gizmo

Although only five years old, Gizmo was
already a "two-time loser". He was abused by children in his first home and was
exhibiting aggressive behaviors toward the children in his second. We have learned over
and over that the Maltese breed is not good with young children... Gizmo's reactions were
understandable. The challenge was that Gizmo now needed a home where he wouldn't be
frequently exposed to young children and where his new owner was able to instill the
confidence he needed to deal with issues and fears that were troubling him. We carefully
took our time finding Gizmo the right home -- so many wanted him because he is adorable.
Then we found Lillian... or, we should say, Lillian found us and Gizmo. It was
"kiss-mutt", now Gizmo is home with someone with time, patience and lots of
love.

Erris

Erris is only five years old and a "moosh". His
initial family found his need for attention too demanding (he IS, afterall, a Maltese) and
were concerned that he seemed to bond only to one member of the family. That one member
was a young girl who knew her life obligations would require her to spend less and less
time with dear Erris. So she made a very "grown-up" decision to contact MMR and
ask us to find him a family who could give Erris the attention he needed. Alexandra had
been waiting for several months to adopt a dog from MMR. Her patience finally paid off
when Erris came to her home. He was the little boy she had been waiting for. Now Erris has
a full time family who love his demands for attention -- they are willing and able to
provide all that and more!

Nina

We received a call from the CACC about a female Maltese..
a stray who was found in Spanish Harlem, initially dubbed "No Name" , so when
her foster Mom named her Nina, it seemed to fit. Nina was about 10 years old, 12 lbs. and
BEAUTIFUL. Nina was also nearly blind, although that "disability" didn't seem to
affect Nina in the least. We discovered the most loving, dear girl we had ever met. All
our dogs are special but, we must admit, Nina was extra special. We looked for that extra
special human who deserved Nina and found Susan who had recently suffered the loss of her
dog. We are so happy these two found each other.

Cody

Cody was so young, just a puppy, and needed that perfect,
loving home with patience and understanding. Lelia saw Cody on the internet and said
"YES!" We knew this was the right one... Now Cody is home with lots of
"chewies" and most importantly, lots of love.

Mick

When we went to the shelter to get a little
stray boy, only 2-3 years old, we were forewarned... this one was "cage
aggressive". But, lo and behold, when our MMR member went to get him from his cage,
he jumped into her arms and smiled. Cages and shelters can be hard on most any animal, but
they are particularly hard on little Maltese. We named him "Mick" and soon
learned all the delights of this wonderful boy. When Mary and her family came to meet him,
they were also smitten and over joyed to meet such a wonderful little guy. Mick taught us
never jump to a conclusion because you'll never know what a terrific being might be
waiting for you, frightened in a cage. We're so happy we met ya, Mick!
