Cupid
The Manhattan CACC entrusted dear Cupid to MMR for us to find him the best home. Cupid is a little guy about 8 years old. He has bilateral cataracts that affect his vision, although he had no trouble finding the best spot on the bed in his new home. He also found his two new, best friends - Bubi & Merlin - who are "rescues", too. His forever-after Mom in Manhattan told us "This 'old, blind, sick' dog loves to go for long walks, loves to eat, loves to snuggle and is just great. Cupid sent his arrows of love directly into our hearts. All three Bubi, Merlin and him get along really well." Cupid is home to stay!

Polo
We responded to the call from the Brooklyn CACC to take in a "Maltese-mix", about 5 years old. When MMR volunteers met Polo, they saw a wonderful dog, but without a lick of Maltese in him. In fact, he looked like a mini-Great Pyrenees, but only 20 lbs (which is big for a Maltese, but tiny for a Great Pyr). No matter, we loved him immediately. It didn't take too long to find Polo a terrific home on L.I. He now has long-term plans for hikes in the nature preserves, puppy massages on command, and being a visiting volunteer therapy pet-a-dog at his local nursing home. All this and a great Mom, a Grandma and three cats to play with, too. Hurray for Polo! |
Munchkin
When we got Munchkin, a 7 year old lady, from the Manhattan CACC, she had skin problems, bronchial problems, ear problems, along with the more typical spay and dental needs. All were tended to by her MMR foster family. Despite all her physical ailments, our Munchkin was a trouper and a sweetie! We soon found her a home in Manhattan where she is much loved and the light of their lives. This is a dear lady who waited much too long for her turn at the love she deserves. But now she's home!

Dakota
Dakota is a needy, 7 yo guy whose former owners doted on him but had a drastic change in their life when the husband suffered a stroke. When MMR took Dakota into foster and we saw how affectionate (and demanding for affection) he could be. We found a wonderful adopter nearby who loved Maltese, but had no other dog, so she can spend lots of time helping Dakota adjust to his new home. And he is once again, very loved. |
Cannoli
Pippin (now "Cannoli") came to MMR from the CACC in NYC. He was in such deplorable shape that we were told by a vet that he was either hit by a car or hit in the head, and the wounds were left to heal over without treatment. This dear boy had partial paralysis on the right side of his head, a bent nose, broken cheekbone, and severe dental problems. After many weeks of loving care, he was ready for his new home in Battery Park City, NYC. As you can see from this photo, Cannoli is well loved and so very happy. Like so many of our dogs, he knows when he is truly home and loved. |
Laycee
Laycee had not been seen a doctor or been groomed in many years when MMR took her in from an elderly owner who needed to go to a nursing facility. Laycee had very bad teeth, a urinary tract infection, an eye infection and was in pretty bad shape. Laycee needed 17 teeth pulled & her remaining teeth cleaned. She was also spayed and had many mammary tumors removed. When we learned the biopsy results were negative, we jumped for joy!

Houdini
Little Houdini is a young boy, less than 2 years old, but his family was not equipped to care for a young, energetic boy. Luckily, there was a fantastic home nearby who also had a young Bichon boy, named Rudy, who took to "Houdy" right away. Now Houdy & Rudy spend hours on end having playtime. When they're tuckered out, they have warm human laps to rest on. Houdini is a happy, lucky pup. And so is his new family. |
